If that’s what you’re thinking, don’t worry, we’ll get back to that in a bit. But first, let’s talk about Maria.
Imagine living in a home where the walls can't keep out the rain and the water you drink makes you sick. This is Maria's reality. But together, we can change this.
Maria lives in Honduras. Her home is a makeshift structure, cobbled together from discarded materials and the limbs of trees. The walls are thin and frail, offering little protection from the elements. When it rains, water seeps through the gaps, turning the dirt floor into mud. Maria’s bed is an old mattress, stained and torn, with a blanket that offers little warmth against the chill of the night. Frequent flooding washes away what little her family has and creates hazardous living conditions.
Access to clean water is a constant battle. Maria’s family relies on the nearest river for everything—drinking, cooking, and washing. This same river, contaminated by sewage and pollutants, is their lifeline, yet it poses significant health risks. The water they drink often leads to illness, but they have no other choice.
We however have the power to give them a choice. Stable homes. Clean water. Safer living conditions.
How?
On February 15th to 16th, I am running for 24 hours to build a safe home for Maria and her family. You can join me without taking a step by pledging $1 for every mile I run. Each dollar you donate not only adds a brick to Maria's new home but also fuels my steps in this 24-hour run. Your support transforms lives—brick by brick, mile by mile.
Let’s come together to change Maria’s life from sleeping in the dirt and drinking water contaminated by sewage to her own dry and safe home.
In January 2024, our friend challenged my family and me to run the 2024 BMO Vancouver Marathon with him. With no prior running experience, we said yes! I trained for the month of January, then a wisdom teeth surgery and university finals knocked me out of training until a week before the race. I trained for three days, and ran the marathon.
The race was tough, but crossing the finish line after all the emotional ups and downs of every step made me feel like I could do anything. It was a high I had never experienced before. I couldn’t move much the next day, but I was hooked.
That experience taught me that we are capable of more than we realize. It also made me realize how powerful our efforts can be when we rally behind a cause. Through running, I have not only challenged myself physically and mentally but also grown a supportive community of friends who inspire and motivate each other.
This time, I’m channeling that same determination and community spirit into something even bigger—helping Maria and her family have a safe, stable home. Running 24 hours is going to be challenging, but knowing that every step brings Maria closer to a better life will keep me going. Together, we can make a tangible difference.
I believe in the power of community, and I invite you to be part of this journey. Your support, whether through donations or spreading the word, helps build a home and fosters a sense of togetherness and purpose here in our communities and abroad in Honduras.
So, are you running this with me? Pledge your support by donating $1 for every mile I run, or make a one-time donation. Every dollar counts, and every mile matters.
Join me on this journey. Let’s build a home for Maria and give her family the safe haven they deserve. Together, we can create change and build a stronger community.
